Dr. Samih Elchahal was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Tampa, Florida. He was awarded the Carl M. Reinert Memorial Scholarship from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2002 with a B.A. in Psychology with Honors. While at Creighton, he earned both the Outstanding Scholarship Award and the Louis E. Gardner Award for Outstanding Service. Dr. Elchahal then attended the University of Florida College of Medicine where he received the Wilford Scholarship and obtained his medical degree in 2006.
Dr. Elchahal completed his internship in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and his residency in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery with the New England Eye Center at Tufts University and the Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. He has published articles and chapters and presented his research at various national meetings.
Dr. Elchahal is a member of the Executive Committee of Houston Eye Associates and has served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Houston Eye Associates Foundation. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Texas Medical and Ophthalmological Associations, and the Harris County Medical Society. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Awty International School.
Along with his wife, Mona, an estate-planning attorney, and their two children, Dr. Elchahal stays active with many outdoor activities, including cycling, traveling, photography, and skiing. They always welcome the opportunity to spend time with their family and friends.
Dr. Elchahal is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He practices comprehensive ophthalmology and specializes in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery.
